Assurance of Salvation
What is Salvation?
Being lost means: separated from God.
Being saved means: being united with God
• Guilt of sin
• Power of sin
• Presence of sin
Salvation is deliverance from all these three aspects.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." 2Corinthians 5:17-21
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” John 1:12-13
The unity between Divinity and Humanity, between God and man is only found in Jesus Christ. He is the God-man. He is the one who united God and man in his own body and life.
Salvation is found in Christ. It's found in someone else other then myself. It's find in a person and not in a denomination or a list of rules that I obey or in a particular way of life.
It's find in a person who leads me to a particular way of life.
Salvation which is in Jesus will lead to a change of life. But salvation not found in that change of life, it's found in Jesus who will bring abaout a change of life.
"But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father."
Ephesians 2:13-18
Salvation is find in Christ alone because He alone is a man united with God. He alone posess a human life united with God. Salvation is unity with God and the unity is find in Christ. How is this given to us?
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Eph 2:8-9
“And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.” Rom 11:6
Salvation is by grace! Not my own obidience, not by effort or work. Some try to keep salvation by work but they never enter into God's rest. Failing to be percect. It's by grace and God's love and mercy. Salvation given to us. It's start by grace, maintained by grace and it is finished by grace.
"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:” Col 2:6
Through faith I receive it. By grace through faith. By simple repenting and accepting Jesus as my saviour. Repentance: give up fighting against God by trying to live a dying life. Give up trying to save your ownself by your dead works and obidience. Both are offensive to God. Both say I can do it myself. I can do it my own way.
Just give up and fall upon the rock Jesus Christ. Inviting in your life, beleive with your heart and confess with your mind and you will be saved.
“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”
But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.”
Enter the peace of God
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
"And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
The Apostle says: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Not because Paul trusted me as a beleiver. No. It's because he trusted Jesus as a Saviour!
Jesus is my Saviour not me!
He promised to change me, to save me, forgive me and give me eternal life. It's our Lord job and responsibility to save me. It's not my job. Why? Because I cannot do it. But he can. And the moment I receive Jesus, the moment I beleive on Him, the Bible says that God gives us power to become and live life as sons of God.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;”
Paul says we become new creatures. We have moved from the dying race of Adam to the new race, the living race of the second Adam which is Jesus Christ. It means we have made free from sin. We are a new creature in Christ, made rightouss and received eternal life because I have Jesus Christ inside of me. I have been given a new heart and a new mind. All my sins are forgiven and I'm accepted in the family of God. That is what is means to saved in Christ.
"Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:" Col 1:12
"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life." 1John 5:11-12
If you are saved you have eternal life. Because you are united with the Son of God, who united you with God the Father in whom is the source of life. When you accept Jesus you are:
Forgiven (Eph 1:7), Justified (Rom 3:24; 5:1), Sanctified (1Cor 1:10 Jude 1:1 Heb 2:11; 10:10)
Saved (2Tim 1:8-9; Tit 3:4-5), Freed from sin (Rom 6:18,22), Freed from the curse (Gal 3:13)
Reconciled (Rom 5:10) Redeemed (Eph 1:7), Adopted and accepted (Eph 1:5), Made to sit in heavenly places in Christ Blessed in all spiritual blessings (Eph 2:6), Without comdemnation (Rom 8:1), Already have eternal life (1John 5:11-13), Delivered from the power of darkness and citisen of the Kingdom of His Son (Col 1:13-14), Complete in Him (Col 2:10)
If you accept Jesus Christ you are saved (John 6:47)
Do you have faith in Him?
Have you accepted Him as your saviour?
Have you given yourself to Him and stopped saving yourselves?
Do you have faith in His ability to forgive you and save you? (John 5:24; 6:37-40; 10:27-29 Rom 4:21-24)
Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Us being united with God which is the work of Jesus Christ we're saved by receiving His life and God had promised He said:
"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Php 1:6
Salvation is unity with God. It is found in a person Jesus Christ. It is given to us by grace through faith . It is not given to us because of our works and obidience. It is dependent on us having faith, or trusting that God is able to do what He promised to do. It is begins by grace it is maintained by grace and it is finished by grace. It is not lost because of a mistake or a failure. It is lost when I chose to walk away from Christ. To push Him away.
It is as sure as God's word is sure because God promised to finish the work of salvation He started in you. "everyone who has faith in me has eternal life." John 6:47
Do you have faith in Christ? Do you beleive in Jesus? Meaning do you trust Him with your salvation? Do you trust His way are the best? We are go to Him because we are weak and inperfect. We are not saved because our love for Him. We are saved because His love for us. We need to trust God's love for us. We love Him because He first loved us. You need to understand when you come to Christ, you are in Him. You are covered. So stop worrying about what God thinks of you, and take comfort in the thought that you are in Christ and what God thinks of Christ is what He thinks of you.
God is saying in the Sanctuary illustration: If my Son is accepted before me; all those who are in my Son are accepted in Him. Because I will examine my son, not you. But if you're in my Son you're accepted.
If your Highpriest is accepted with God and forever is accepted it means that so long you're in Christ you're forever will be accepted in the Son of God. This is faith. This is personal faith, to beleive your personal salvation, because of what Jesus did and because of who He is. If you don't have that you don't have faith, you only have intellectual beleif. Do you have faith to beleive that you're accepted in the Son of God? Do you have faith beleive in your personal salvation not because of what you did but because of what He has done? There is that faith is!
